Why the ChiroBug
The ChiroBug was created by Dr Scott N
Grossman who is a business owner and car enthusiast (especially German
cars). He has made it his mission to teach, promote and get chiropractic
to the world. One of the ways he intended to do so is through
advertising. He did a lot of research into advertising and found it to
be very expensive. The results for such advertising are sporadic at best
and for the most part the advertising for chiropractors is very dull.
The deciding factor came when Dr Grossman spoke with a bill board
company who wanted a 3-5 year commitment. The cost would exceed $3000
per month! Dr Grossman does run immediate response ads 2 times per year
that are very successful but they are only for 1 month at a time. So his
goal was to come up with something that was more cost effective but
would be seen for a longer period of time. Essentially he wanted to
create a “Top Of The Mind Awareness” campaign. While going through some
paper work Dr. Grossman came across an idea he had a long time ago. On
this piece of paper was a drawing of a VW Beetle with the words “what’s
bugging you” written on the side. With his recent addition of his
Cranberry location, this old idea brought a new light to his advertising
dilemma. He brainstormed and created sketch after sketch in order to get
all of his ideas ready for this masterpiece in the making.
Dr Grossman went to the local VW dealer,
Billco Motors Inc., and discussed his idea with the salesman. “The whole
dealership was a huge help!” exclaimed Dr Grossman who needed to special
order the new fully loaded VW Beetle. When asked why he chose to use a
VW Beetle, Dr Grossman explained “The VW Beetle is an icon. It has a
certain recognition value; everyone knows what it is. Plus, a Lady Bug
is a type of beetle and in our culture a lady bug is good luck.”
The next step was to find someone capable of
reproducing this idea. Enter Ron Kirkpatrick of Ron Kirkpatrick Customs.
His creativity and working knowledge of custom painting enabled Dr
Grossman’s vision to become a reality. After months of anticipation the
final product arrived, excuse me, was born on April 16th 2007.
After it was all said and done, the total
cost of the car and custom paint was substantially less than any other
form of year-round TOMA advertising. Plus the bug will be around for
years and years to come.
“So we hope that you spot the ChiroBug and
call one of our offices to discuss what’s buggin’ you!”
